Watercolours are an essential part of my practice I think influenced by painting at school using the lovely dusty colours of powder paint on large pieces of paper. My first artist watercolour box was acquired when at art school, since that time I have never been without one.

I have taken many trips to draw and paint, most recently for a stay at Atelier de la Rose, Montcabrier in the Lot Valley, France. Here I painted a series of small watercolours inspired by the landscape of greens in the valleys and woods from luminous lime, deepest olive and nearly black viridian, the colours of wild flowers in fields and along roadside verges including purple orchids, red poppies, yellow mullein, and purple phacelia.
